On the local and global exterior square L-functions of GL_n

We show that construction of the exterior square L-function due to Jacquet and Shalika yields the `correct' L-function (that is the Galois L-function defined via the local Langlands Correspondence) for square integrable representations and, more generally, for all irreducible admissible representations when n is even. Time permitting, we will explore a few consequences.
