We recall how to associate to a Bernstein component in the category of smooth representations of a p-adic group an affine Hecke algebra, give a few details about the parameters involved, discuss how to recover tempered and discrete series representations, and say a few words on expected applications to the Langlands correspondence and unitarity questions.
