I will present a short critical (and somewhat subjective) review of a number of acceleration processes postulated to operate in astrophysical sources, including the relativistic shock acceleration and the second order Fermi acceleration processes. I will point out that the discussed mechanisms are often applied in a doubtful way in astrophysical sources.
