CMS management set up a calorimeter simulation task force to
bring together the expertise in full and fast simulation to under-
stand and improve the quality of simulation for CMS. The effort
has resulted in an improved simulation starting from the first prin-
ciples as well as a well parametrized approach for doing a fast and
precise simulation of the calorimeter. Various steps in the approach
and the final achievemnets will be discussed with a view to agree-
ment between Monte Carlo and data from the first collisions at the
Large Hadron Collider.
