We conjecture a precise relationship between a limit of the superconformal index of 4d N = 2 field theories, and the spectrum of BPS particles on the Coulomb branch. As an application, we compute the indices of all Argyres-Douglas theories and identify the underlying 2d chiral algebras in various cases.
