Description
Abstract: Graphene’s electronic properties are exciting and have been studied extensively. In addition, the mechanical properties are of interest for scientific and technological reasons. Vibrational modes of a nanomechanical system (NEMS) are the localized long-wavelength phonon eigenmodes of the system. The ability to control the coupling between the vibrational modes of graphene membranes offers significant advantages – primarily the high frequency and the low mass provides an avenue to extend systems, in the future, into the quantum regime. I will discuss our experiments probing the strong coupling between mechanical modes of graphene resonators.
