Description
We review and discuss here some of the exciting new insights on gravitational collapse endstates, as obtained by recent works of Pretorius, Lehner, Santos, and others. Their relevance to black hole physics is pointed out. The relation to our earlier work on collapse is mentioned, and the theoretical significance as well as the observational directions opening up on these fundamental issues are indicated.
