In this multimedia talk I will provide a short, non-technical survey of Stephen Hawking's essential contributions to gravitation and cosmology. The talk will include some stories that highlight his remarkable life and his role as a public figure, together with some audio and video clips of Hawking. I will also include some personal memories as a host of his visit to TIFR, Mumbai for the Strings 2001 conference.
