Description
Supersymmetry and duality impose strong constraints on the effective action of string theory. I will consider the example of type IIB string theory in 10 dimensions, where some of the implications of these constraints can be analyzed in detail. I shall discuss how some terms in the effective action, which are at high orders in the momentum expansion, can be fixed exactly. Such terms satisfy non-renormalization theorems, and only receive a finite number of perturbative corrections.
