Discovery of the hottest component of the circumgalactic medium of the Milky Way with non-solar abundance ratios

The circumgalactic medium serves as an interface between the galactic stellar disk and the intergalactic medium. It contains the largest baryon reservoir, and is believed to regulate the star-formation in a galaxies. As such, the curcumgalactic medium (CGM) is a very important component of a galaxy, so determining its physical conditions has been an active field of research. I'll review our work in the past few years and present new results. Using a deep XMM-Newton spectrum we have discovered the hottest component of the CGM. We also found non-solar abundance ratios of metals. Theoretical models of galaxy evolution and feedback must reproduce these properties of the CGM.
