The accelerator infrastructure of the GSI heavy ion acceleration facility and the upcoming Facility of Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) will be briefly discussed. The speaker will highlight the beam diagnostic developments and the resultant improvements towards the operation of the present facility.
