Description
Abstract: The Griffiths group of degree $i$ of a smooth projective complex variety is the group of homologically trivial codimension $i$ algebraic cycles on it modulo algebraic equivalence. We will outline a new method due to S. Schreieder to detect nontriviality of classes in Griffiths groups, which was used by him to show that there exist smooth projective complex varieties with infinite 2-torsion in their degree 3 Griffiths groups, addressing a question due to C. Shoen. The talk is based on the preprint https://arxiv.org/abs/2011.15047 by S. Schreieder.
