Smooth torus quotients of Richardson varieties in Grassmannian

Abstract : We will study the GIT quotients of Richardson varieties in the Grassmannian by a maximal torus. We give a necessary and sufficient combinatorial condition for which the quotient variety is smooth. If time permits we will discuss the projective normality of torus quotients of Grassmannian of planes in the complex n space using standard monomial theory. The later is based on a joint work with Kannan and Subrahmanyam.
