Description

The high luminosity LHC plans to collect ten times more data than the LHC. This provides us with great opportunities for searching for new physics and to make measurements within the standard model. But it also brings us more challenges because of the radiation damage to the detector and degraded physics performance. I will describe how we are preparing for upgrading the endcap calorimeter of the CMS experiment. I will focus on how the silicon module assembly and testing is carried out using robots and automated procedures. During the HL-LHC data taking, we need to have very good performance of physics objects by mitigating high pileup. I will briefly describe how machine learning methods can be used to regress energy of hadrons. It is also essential to monitor the quality of data during data taking and lessons learnt during Run 3 will be very helpful.
