DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Melissa Graham (Rubin Observatory / University of Wa
shington)\n\nAbstract: In 2026 the new Rubin Observatory opens its dome an
d begins the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) with the world’s lar
gest digital camera. Over 10 years\, the LSST will repeatedly image the en
tire southern sky in six color filters\, capturing moving and variable obj
ects while also building the largest\, deepest map of our Milky Way and th
e Universe beyond. In this talk\, I’ll provide an overview of the design
of the telescope\, camera\, and survey\; the image processing pipelines a
nd data delivery services\; the user support and public engagement initiat
ives\; and the wide variety of science goals to be achieved by the global
astronomical community.\nAbout Speaker: Dr. Graham is a research staff sci
entist in the Department of Astronomy at the University of Washington in S
eattle WA USA. She has worked with the Rubin Observatory and its Legacy Su
rvey of Space and Time (LSST) for 10 years\, and is currently Rubin’s Le
ad Community Scientist. Her main research focus is supernovae\, especially
  those of Type Ia.\n\nhttps://scitalks.tifr.res.in/event/9337/
