DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Nishchhal Verma (Columbia University)\n\nTopology ac
ts as an obstruction to an exponentially localized\, orthonormal\, and com
plete basis in real space. In this talk\, I will discuss various ways arou
nd this obstruction and construct a local basis set using the projected de
nsity operator. The spectrum of the operator provides a systematic way to
identify local orbitals and uncover a natural hierarchy of interaction sca
les. This framework applies to both tight-binding and continuum models\, a
nd it offers a universal prescription for reducing the single-particle Hil
 bert space dimension.\n\nhttps://scitalks.tifr.res.in/event/9386/
