DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Nisa Ara (TIFR)\n\nWe discuss the key ideas that mak
e two-dimensional tensor-network methods practical. We begin with infinite
Projected Entangled Pair States (iPEPS)\, the natural two-dimensional gen
eralization of MPS\, and the optimization schemes used to variationally de
termine their ground states. We then address the central computational cha
llenge of the method: the contraction of an infinite two-dimensional tenso
r network to evaluate physical observables. Two complementary approaches a
re presented. The first is the Corner Transfer Matrix Renormalization Grou
p (CTMRG)\, which approximates the infinite environment surrounding a loca
l tensor by iteratively renormalizing its boundary. The second is the Levi
n–Nave Tensor Renormalization Group (TRG)\, which instead coarse-grains
the entire tensor network through successive local singular value decompos
itions. Together\, these methods provide the essential computational machi
nery for studying strongly correlated quantum systems directly in the ther
 modynamic limit.\n\nhttps://scitalks.tifr.res.in/event/9387/
