Description

Gravitational waves from merging binaries have been detected for more than a decade. I will review the status of the current observations and present the astrophysical models considered for their origin. The models imply some expected properties of the sources. I will discuss the confrontation of these theoretical predictions with the data and present an outlook for the future.
