Majorana fermions and topological superconducting quantum phase transitions in semiconductors

I will describe our recent work on constructing new topological superconducting mediums which carry Majorana fermions as lowest energy excitations and which can therefore be used as platforms for topological quantum computation. I will also describe topological quantum phase transtions in and out of these interesting phases.
